What is your artist name and where are you from?
My name is sun haze and I’m from Venezuela, but currently based on Madrid, Spain.
What genre(s) of music do you tag your music in and what inspires you to create it?
I would tag my music as faith-based dream pop/bedroom pop!
Can you talk us a little about what inspired your most while creating your track for our ‘Analog Memories Vol.1’ compilation?
For this track I wanted to go for more of a lofi bedroom pop vibes, maintaining the structure and lyrics fairly simple! I really like that 80s chorus vibes on guitars and after playing around a little bit over the main melody I was drawn inmediately to try a drum machine kinda sound for the drums. Honestly I wanted to keep it simple!
How do you overcome creativity block while doing your music?
Most of the times when I encounter creative block I tend to do various things to get through it, the main one if to go to my go-to influences and try to replicate their sound on my own. Surprisignly enough most of the times you don't get the same sound but you can learn a lot to design your own signature sound in the process!
What are your goals for next year?
Definitely get more sun haze music out and focus on growing 7 Tapes to help more artists and fans to discover each other! and draw myself closer to God :)
If you could tell a writing/production technique, what it would be?
Trusting your ears in key! even though knowing the foundations is really important, you'll find your own voice if you dare to break the laws of sound production and find your own techniques! If I would have to choose one it would be the Varispeed tool on Logic. If you don't feel inspired with the idea you have, just play around with it and you will recover the inspiration towards the idea and even get new ideas for it!
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Honestly the way algorithms works lately. Spotify for instance shows your new music to up to 5% of your following, that's quite ridiculous to be honest! most of the times the only ones getting benefit are the big names, and the smaller just keeps getting under the shadow mostly, so definitely a more polite way to be discovered, similar to TikTok which always offers certain amount of people for an opportunity to boost your options if the hook of the video is cool. Music-wise, that's why we created 7 Tapes in the first place, because we saw most of the labels didn't offered support beyond just getting rights from artist. By us focusing on having our own solid platform through playlists and offering branding development we think we can level up the artist's game inmediately, boosting their creativity and longevity. That's what we stand for!
what you like to do outside of music that contributes to your musicality?
As soon as I meet Jesus and get to know more about God and his plans on humanity and my life, I started to get so inspired again to write music, and actually made it way better in terms of intentions. I'm always trying to discover my Lord's word to seek spiritual growth but also to draw inspiration from the amazing stories contained. I really encourage you to read some of them!
